How many people with chronic hepatitis C do the Otago District Health Board estimate are in the Otago District Health Board area ?

The ODHB does not have a programme to estimate numbers of HCV in the community. This would require a population based study. On the basis of various mainly blood donor based studies, the prevalence is estimated to be between 1-2% prevalence

What method has Otago District Health Board used to estimate numbers of patients to be treated in 2009 ?

Treatment is limited by the DHB's resources. Resources are currently limited to treating approximately 26 patients.
