How many people with chronic hepatitis C do the Otago District Health Board estimate are in the Otago District Health Board area ?
The ODHB does not have a programme to estimate numbers of HCV in the community. This would require a population based study. On the basis of various mainly blood donor based studies, the prevalence is estimated to be between 1-2% prevalence
What method has Otago District Health Board used to estimate numbers of patients to be treated in 2009 ?
Treatment is limited by the DHB's resources. Resources are currently limited to treating approximately 26 patients.
How many patients have been waiting for hepatitis C combination interferon or pegylated interferon and ribavirin more than 6 months ?
There are 64 patients on our waiting list. Of those
49 have been waiting longer than six months.
How many patients have been waiting for hepatitis C interferon or pegylated interferon and ribavirin more than 12 months ?
30 patient's have been waiting more than twelve months
How many patients have been waiting for hepatitis C with combination interferon or pegylated interferon and ribavirin more than 24 months ?
12 patient's have been waiting more than twenty four months
If a treatment delay occurred was the reason for this:
a. Budget
b. Contractual difficulties
c. Staff shortage
d. Biopsy access
e. Other (please specify)
Treatment delays are primarily related to budget and staff shortages are a secondary reason.
